I guess I will do this year like I did last year. Today was the first day that the water was thawed out and the first day I got to fish. I got a good start like last year. I was fishing in about 16 foot of water and had bluegill heads sitting just off the bottom. I had a fish just pick the bait up and lay the bobber over. I set the hook and nothing. Pitched right back out there and same thing. The water is still about negative 200 degrees so I wasn't expecting the bites to be too hard. A little while later I had another bite lay the bobber over and was dragging it off. I set the hook and for the first time this year I got to see that rod bend a little. A quick fight and I had the first fish of the year. Like last year it was about an 18 inch bass.
That was the only bites I had on my catfish poles but I had a crappie jig under a slip bobber on another rod. I tipped it with a bluegill about an inch long. I was jigging it in the deep water but not close to the bottom like earlier. I was only about 7 foot deep with this poles. Finally the bobber just stopped. I would jig it and it wouldn't move. So I set the hook and got a 12ish inch crappie.
Be expecting a video within the next couple of days or tonight.

That is really cool getting fish like that this early ice off, is that normal for the ice to be gone like that willy we still have about 2 feet or more ice here and will have that and more till April.

Thanks Mike and Peg. I am at my grandma's right now and I need to wait until I get home so I can convert the video files to edit them. Mike, This is the earliest I have ever seen ice off the water around here. It is usually late march or april before it clears. The temps are going to drop back down after today so it will freeze back. My cousin Jake called and they were biting real good by his house. When I talked to him he had been fishing for 10 minutes and had 3 good bass and missed 1 while I was talking to him.

Thanks Greg. I am working on the video now but since I only caught 2 there will be alot of filler stuff. It depends on how much of the video I have that I can actually use. If I don't have enough I probably wont make it.

I kept going through the video I had but couldn't find much to use so I put me missing two fish into it so I could use the whole song. Let me know if that video works. My Tech teacher at school likes using mydeo and I like that I can upload it straight from movie maker so I hope it works.

Thanks but too bad there was more missing than there was catching. I will make plenty more this year but I think I am just going to wait until I have enough to make a pretty good one where I have 6-7 minutes of usable video instead one 1 minute.

I finally made it out again. Yesterday I spent an hour trying to catch 4 gills and didn't get a single bite on any of them. On the third cast with a crappie jig I caught the same bass that was my first fish last year. I got it on video too.

I came over to my cousin's house today. This will be the last weekend to come fish around his house for one last time before he moves. As soon as I pulled in the drive I heard my cousin hollering to come help him. He was throwing a chatter bait and snagged a grass carp on accident. He hooked it on an ultra light with 6 pound test. It took acouple trys but we got him out. I got the last couple minutes on video and I will be here tomorrow so I can get more. Be expecting a video!

THanks Peg! 8 more today. Jake got the biggest on my pole while I was trying to get bait. 28-29 inch channel that as fat as could be.
We also caught holy and a fish similar to him. One has 1 hole and the other has 2. They were ripped when somebody tried to pick them up by the mouth and as far as I know they are the only 2 like that. We actually caught the original holy twice.
Here are some more pics.

Thanks Mike! How much ice do you guys still have? Obviously we lost the last of ours about a week ago. Now if the stupid water would warm up a bit. These fish deffinetly weren't going to chase nothing. You had to hit them right in the face pretty much. We sit there for over an hour without a bite but there were a couple times there was less than 30 seconds from the time I finished sinking the line to the time Jake set the hook.

There is still enough ice on the lakes that they were still driving out yesterday with smaller vehicles so i would say there is about 2 1/2 feet yet but getting weak, but i think that will be over as we seen a few try and drive out and they turned around and drove right back off. It is going to go off fast now and there calling for temps in the 50's this next week so yep it will be open real soon, we need some wind to speed things up to that would help.

Great looking blue cat there, Willy!~! Congrats on all your fish so far this year. Looks like you're going to have another good year. It's still too cold here to do any fishing. Will have to wait till it warms up quite a bit more before I go out..

Thanks Peg but Jake caught the cat. I edited the first post with a video because I had to change something. I bet you can't tell what I changed.
