Now these fish were by far big fish but they were hand size and bigger and the first crappies of the year for me, so we took our limits home with us today and we got 30 of them. Here are a couple pics of me holding a few of them, and man it was a cool and windy day to boot.

Here is a pic of the crappies on a board just before they went under the knife.

Here is a couple pics of me cutting the fish up not the funnest part of the trip.

And the end result is a 1/2 a ice cream bucket of fillets for the frying pan.

They want to go again on Sunday but we will have to see how the weather is and how much time i have.

Nice crappie Mike! I need to go catch a mess for my grandpa. Do you usually keep the skin on them when you cook them? I have always done them the same way I do all of my fish besides cats where I skin them. I cut right behind the head, cut all the way to the tail, flip it over and fillet the meat right off the skin. With a sharp knife it is not hard to do if you do it alot and I don't waste any meat. It was also the easiest way to clean them redfish. I doubt my neighbor had cleaned very many. He tried to get me to scale and skin them. Is that how you normally do them greg? I thought my way would be a thousand times easier so I didn't try his way.

Willy i have always left the skin on the as we all like the taste that it gives, i have done it both ways it just depends on how im going to fix the fish. If im going to make a crappie chowder i always take the shin off, if frying i leave it on as it gives a crispy side to the fish and yum yum yum it is. cheers cheers cheers
