Always make sure your hands are clean when you handle your bait. I don,t use soap on my hands, I get a bucket of water from the lake or river that I'm fishing in,wash my hands real good("not all over John ,just your hands") and Every time before you bait up. Also ,change the water often.......

I can't say for certain it helps but I also wash my hands before
handling baits. I prefer using sand as a scouring agent when
available. Sand also helps me handle slimy little channel cats.

I feel like flathead have already committed to taking a bait
before they ever get close enough to smell/taste it or even see it.
But scrubbing my hands is such a simple thing, I continue to do it.
