US Marshals arrest escaped SD inmate in Minn.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - An escaped inmate from central South Dakota with a history of committing burglaries and assault has been arrested by local and federal police in St. Paul.

The U.S. Marshal's Service reports that 37-year-old Michael J. Smith was arrested about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after a fugitive task force tracked him to an address in St. Paul.

A news release says Smith was wanted for escaping from Beadle County, South Dakota, sheriff's deputies while being escorted from a court hearing on April 7.

Smith was wearing handcuffs and striped jail uniform when he pretended to have something stuck in his shoe, bent over, kicked off his shoes and ran away.

South Dakota authorities have said Smith was in the process of being extradited to Hastings - where he was wanted on theft charges - when he escaped.

The funniest part is him running away in his bare feet and with cuffs on, try running with your hands together like you are praying it sucks and you can't run very fast.
