Family: Octuplets' mother has 6 other children

WHITTIER, Calif. – The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week has six other children and never expected to have eight more when she took fertility treatment, her mother said.

Angela Suleman said her daughter expects a big challenge raising 14 children. The good news, she said, is all the babies appear healthy.

"I looked at those babies. They are so tiny and so beautiful," Suleman told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

Suleman's daughter gave birth to the octuplets Monday at a hospital in Bellflower but has requested that doctors keep her name confidential. Media knew little about the woman until a family acquaintance told CBS' "The Early Show" on Thursday that the mother is "fairly young" and lives with her parents and her six children.

Within hours, media had camped out at the family's home in Whittier, where the babies' grandfather pulled up in a minivan in the evening and briefly spoke to The Associated Press. Beside him were two children — a 7-year-old and 6-year-old — who said they were excited to have eight new siblings.

But the grandfather warned that media may have a tougher time finding the family after the babies are released from the hospital.

I think there's more to this story than they are telling....She didn't need 8 more babies ......While living at home with mom and dad......You just wait...They will be more about this later on...It's not over yet....

This is what i have been saying, alot of these people are looking for hand outs, ((new cars and everything paid for to raise these children i think it is very sad that this was aloud to happen and the doctors should be sued for every penny they have. as far as the kids go i don't think that they should be aloud to be with that family that is the way i look at it and always will.

Who needs 14 kids in this day and age.

She's been watching tv with the ones that had the sixtuplets and probably figures she they will have a tv show and get rich from it and have a big fine home and everything else. The dr should have his license pulled and never be able to be a dr in any state in the US and she should have her tubes tied and the kids taken away from her. I'm sorry but no husband and 8 new babies, whore comes into my mind even if they were done artificially, just another drain on our tax money.

From What the news is saying is that the mother is obsessed with having children and that the mother to the mother tried to talk her out of doing this, this is a sure sign of wanting hand outs and i don't think that the 30 year old mother should be aloud to have any rights with these children, and if she does i feel that social services should be on her ass from day one till them kids are moved out. what i mean by that is that social services be involved everyday of this persons life because i don't feel that she can take care of 14 kids even with mommy and daddy being there. i hope they bury them doctors like they deserve.

From what I heard on the news this morning she filed bankruptcy.Lost her home and had to move in with her mom and dad...They live in a small 2 bedroom house....Guess who's paying for the hospital bill? Yep...Taxpayers....Something just ain't right with this story...I don't know what it is...But something ain't right...

Dr. James Grifo, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the NYU School of Medicine, added: "I don't think it's our job to tell them how many babies they're allowed to have. I am not a policeman for reproduction in the United States. My role is to educate patients."

UUUMMMM I guess educating patients doesn't lie within the health risks of having so many babies at one time... This Dr. is just grasping at straws trying to weasel his way out of this one. Don't think it's going to happen though... I agree with Tessie. There is something else that is going on but I don't know what..... I'm sure we will all find out sooner than later...

I told the wife it was all to do with money, she has been watching John and Kate plus 8 and figured she will get rich having all these kids. Send her back to Iraq and let them raise them over there. We don't need to be paying for raising 14 more kids. In the Daily Pantagraph this morning it said that her mom and dad bought her the two bedroom home then got into finacial problems and had to sell their home and move in with her. Now her dad said he is going back to Iraq to be a translater. SEND THEM ALL BACK and let the Iraqian government support them. and deffiinetly don't give her a bunch of money for being stupid, but just watch she will be the next one on tv and living the life of, whatever you need we will give it to you. Take the 8 new babies and give them to people that would like to adopt a child, fix her so no more kids and take the dr and lock him up. He's probably in the background and going to get some of the money she gets too.
