Jacksonville Fl,--A Jacksonville promotions company has suspended the launch of a blonde-haired doll that bears the name of a slain Orlando toddler.
Showbiz Promotions had planned to sell its Caylee Sunshine doll, named for Caylee Anthony, for $29.99 on its Web site cayleedoll.com. The sale, which was to start at noon today, was intended as a "tribute."
The company said it planned to donate the proceeds from the doll to a charity, but an organization hadn't been selected yet.
Casey Anthony, Caylee's mother, is charged in the girl's death.
Jaime Salcedo, Showbiz Promotions' president, explained the suspension on the Web site today. "After reviewing the response to our media introduction of the Sunshine Caylee Doll and listening to the advice of the general public. We feel that is it best to suspend the launch of The Sunshine Caylee Doll."
Salcedo goes on to say that "it is important to raise awareness and raise money to help stop this type of crime from being committed." But, he adds: "We feel we can be more effective using more traditional methods."
The site still lists "Caylee Sunshine" T-shirts and bracelets for sale.
Showbiz Promotions also sells NFL-related gear and owns another Web site called vickdogchewtoy.com, where customers can purchase a "Prison Vick Chew Toy" for $7.77.
