| In the Fire Department we always had a good supply of 7 inch, three corner, double taper, mill bastard files. We used them to fix threads in the hose couplings. The taper on those files was a perfect match to the taper on the hose coupling threads. Needles to say anybody that fished for anything, had a good supply of them on hand as they were free to us. Well they weren't supposed to be free, but somehow they would mysteriously end up in everyone's tackle boxes eventually. Anyhow I found those to be the best danged thing to sharpen hooks with that I ever used. Just a few quick strokes and those hooks would stick into your thumbnail with no problem. I always sharpened my hooks by filing against the point. If you file toward the point it always leaves a little tiny thin metal edge that you can't get rid of, without going against the point. | You guys ever seen the best way to remove a hook thats lodged in your hand or wherever?......Tie line around it and push the base of the hook then snatch the line. | |

| Yep Only Had To Do It Once, But I Did Have To Cut One Out With A Razor Blade That Was To Deep To Do That. Lets Just Say That The Point Of The Hook Was Touching The Thumb Nail From The Back Side, I Took A Razor Blade And Cut Along Side The Hook Till It Came Out. :face: | |

| The first time a hooked myself real bad I used a freakin pair of needle nose and a fifth of Jim Beam to snatch it out.....The darn hangover was worse than the snatching it out part. | |

| I had one go aroung the bone in my thumb , had to get the doc to do it . but I watched him so I can do it if I ever have to. He just kept on pushing it till it came through , cut the point and barb off , pulled it out backwards, all done | |

| I do have a little tapered sharpening stone made just for hook sharpening. Still I do not use it very often these days. I did use it often in the 70's however when salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. It is stored in my main tackle box. It may be similar to what Mike is talking about. | |
