what is your favorite rig for flathead? I am talking hard tackle, rod, reel, line, set-up???
hook size ,the way you tie up, amount of weight the type of weight??
I have caught more on fishing 9 ft under the surface fishing next to a structure wheather it is a log, stump,or drop off.
I like using Good heavy tackle spinning or baitcast just so it is heavy.I want power pro 65 to 80 lb test with a mono leader of 50 lb . I will use a bunch of different weight size and styles depending on where and how I am fishing.
fishing with a bobber I will use 2 ounce slip weight with a bead above the swivel with a 18 inch leader tied to a 7/0-10/0 circle hook. I like circle hooks above any other styles because of the way I fish. but the hook needs to be big for big flats!

Pappy

It pays to be flexible whatever fish you pursue.

When I read about your rigs I envision you fishing for flathead in rivers
near submerged timber during daylight.

My approach is entirely different. I fish lakes at night and target
flathead as they travel hunting routes. I do not have to force fish
away from submerged timber so I can enjoy the luxury of using tackle half
your size of tackle. My maximum nececessary force is setting hooks and
my rods seem a little larger than approproate for my 36# test line.

I have landed 50+ flathead on 20# test mono and once got a 61
pound flathead on 30# line that I had to get away from downed logs.
Obviously I could stay with heavier tackle and reduce risks but I prefer
to battle each fish a little longer.

Each fishing situation may produce differring conditions and require some
tackle changes. Flathead are individualistic within a waterway and several tactics and
tackle changes may be necessary for success.

Unfortunately most flathead fishermen only learn from mistakes and
some repeat the mistakes.

I hope to return to some river fishing situations soon and try some
new ideas I have for catching river flathead.

Robby you are the flathead master no doubt! I agree you have to be flexable with your prentations as well as your tackle! Just curious to the different ways different people approach flathead fishing!! Very Happy
