A Dakota County deputy arrested on suspicion of DWI, when his license was supposed to be suspended, will make his first court appearance Monday.
Joshua Williams was arrested in November after a fellow deputy clocked him driving 68 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. He was stopped on County Road 46 in Empire Township, not far from where he had hit and killed a motorcyclist 15 months earlier.
Authorities said Williams failed both a field sobriety and breath test.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS broke the story and our reporting led to the discovery that Dakota County had not sent hundreds of other convictions to the state for possible suspension. That launched a statewide review in every county.
If convicted, this would be William's second DWI in less than 10 years. He already has a DWI conviction in North Carolina from December 1998.
At last check, Williams was still on paid administrative leave.
