| My friend Darcy's son was one of the 800 lucky people to get drawn for an elk tag this year. Charlie is only about 8 years old and went down to south eastern KY in October with his crossbow and while they got to hear several bulls bugle they never seen and elk due to how thick it was. He only has a cow tag though. Over the weekend they went back but took his 7mm-08 and didn't waste much time. Yesterday morning they woke up and spotted a cow right off the bat. At one point they were within 15 yards of her but Charlie couldn't get a shot. She backed out to 45 where she turned broadside and the hard work began. They estimated her atleast 600 pounds and had a 200 yard uphill drag. Took 5 grown men to do it. They should've quartered her out in the field but they are getting her mounted and didn't want to take any chances. I knew they were big but getting to see one up close and personal puts them into a different perspective. | |
