DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines man allegedly powered his pickup truck above 100 mph and drove the wrong way on a one-way street in an effort to elude police.
Des Moines police say 33-year-old Wade McElroy was arrested Monday after he was involved in several collisions near a downtown intersection.
Authorities say McElroy ran from the crash site and hid while police went after another pickup that looked like the one McElroy was driving. He was later found hiding behind a transformer station.
Authorities say McElroy was initially charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated as a third or subsequent offense.
Additional charges of eluding, reckless driving, failure to give aid and information at an accident scene, interference with official acts, probation violation, no driver's license and failure to have insurance were filed late Monday against McElroy.
