I've been thinking about getting back into weight lifting after a several year break. I remember back when I was lifting consistently I felt much better. So in the fall I bought a good weight bench at the auction. I finally got the computer room cleaned out so that the exercise bike and weight bench would fit. I found a good book at Barnes and Noble called 101 workouts. I found an Excel spreadsheet for tracking progress, and I finally started last night. The book gave 4 exercises per body part and I knew that was too much so I decided on 1 per body part. Last night was chest and triceps, so I did the incline barbell press with 45 pounds and was able to do all 4 sets and the recommended reps. For the triceps I did close grip dumbell press which looks like this except the palms face each other.

I figured 20 pounds would be about right. Well it wasn't! I was only able to do 6 reps and 3 sets instead of the recommended sets and reps. I should have adjusted the weight after the first set but I powered through it. Stupid idea! Today my right arm is just about useless! So now I need to lay off weights until my arm is feeling better. I guess I need to do a test rep on each exercise to get the right weight instead of just guessing!

Yep yep, Ridge. You ALWAYS want to get the right weight on something like that instead of guessing, as you can get seriously injured if you don't.... I hope you didn't injure yourself too bad and that you will be back lifting weights soon... Best of luck to you!~!
