| Subject: A Letter To My Granddaughter.... Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:28 pm | |
| This is a letter that I wrote to my Granddaughter Destiny.....I wanted to make sure that she knew how much her mawmawtc really loves her......My sister will keep the letter for her until she is old enough to understand it all...I just wanted to share it with my friends here too.... Dear Destiny.....
I am the luckiest person in the world because I am your Mawmaw.... Every day when I wake up, I say a thank you prayer for you and for the joy you have added to my life. There are a lot of things I wish for you as you make your journey through life, but these are the four things I wish for you the most:
I WISH THAT YOU ALWAYS REALIZE HOW SPECIAL YOU ARE. You will be tempted at times in your life to envy others. But... I hope that you will come to realize that there is no one in the world any more special than you ..... I look at you, Destiny, and I remember when you were so small, and we played with the small shells we found in the sand by the swing and how you would squeal with delight each time you found one. At those times, I thought my heart would burst with joy! Now I look at you and see your thoughtfulness and your ability to withdraw into your own world as you concentrate on and explore things in which you are interested and the amazing way you have of explaining things when asked... I marvel, at how wonderfully special you are. What an amazing granddaughter you are!!!!! I remember when we sailed sticks under the bridge at the little creek when you were no bigger than a grasshopper.... and how you would laugh and then run to the other side to see the sticks come through and how amazed you were when they actually showed up on the other side. At those times, I thought my heart would just completely jump out of my chest with the love I have for you....I do love you so much Destiny..... I look at you, Destiny, and I remember how it made me smile to see the way you loved and cared for your kittens, holding each one so carefully and how you would talk to them. At those times is when I think just how special you are.... Now I look at you, and I see how your curiosity about the world has expanded, and I see the wide-eyed interest you show when confronted with a new fact and how your love of animals is still so strong. I remember the times we would wade through all the puddles after a rain, and the smile on your face and how you would laugh when the water splashed all over us. At those times, I thought my heart would burst with joy! Now I look at you, and I see your boundless energy and the delight you find in everything around you and how you love to work in the garden or to explore the woods... Now I look at you, and I see a confident, beautiful little girl who greets the world with wonder and who will grow into a confident woman ready to set the world right. I'm so proud of you Destiny..... You are such a special little girl.....
I WISH THAT YOU ALWAYS FIND JOY IN SIMPLE THINGS. There are those people who grow up and forget what joy there is in watching a storm roll in, watching a woodpecker drilling for bugs on a tree, putting their hands into the dirt to plant a garden, holding a baby chick, catching lightning bugs and then releasing them, wading in a puddle and much more. I have never allowed myself to forget the joy in these things, and my wish for you is that you will carry this joy in simple things throughout your life. I wish this because when your heart is sad because someone has disappointed or hurt you, there is nothing quite so healing as watching newborn deer frolicking in a field and realizing that life goes on, old hurts heal, life begins again , and joy will come again. I wish this because when you have a moment of fame or you are promoted to an important position, there is nothing quite so humbling as looking up at the stars and realizing that, although you are an important part of something special, you are only a part, and every living creature is also an important part of this wonderful world. I wish this because when you have important and difficult decisions to make, there is nothing quite so calming as watching a spider spin a web and realizing that even the most complicated task can be accomplished simply if reduced to one step at a time. I wish this because if you ever feel lost or unloved, there is nothing that will make you feel loved quite as much as planting and nourishing a garden and realizing that just as you watch and care for these plants as they grow, you are watched over and cared for all through your life.
I WISH THAT YOU WILL MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE JUST BY BEING IN IT. I have seen a loving spirit in you Destiny..... I see the compassion and kindness you have inside every time I am with you. I hope that you will allow that compassion and kindness to keep growing throughout your life, and that it will surround everyone with whom you come into contact, making their journey a little easier. I wish this not only for their benefit, but because I know that the more love you give, the more you will receive, and more than anything, I wish for you to know love.
I WISH THAT YOU NEVER FORGET HOW MUCH YOUR MAWMAWTC LOVES YOU I hope that all through your life you will carry the knowledge of what a treasure you were to your Mawmawtc and how much I loved you, and that one day, when you have children and grandchildren of your own, you will pass the knowledge and love on to them. Being a momma and mawmaw has been the greatest joy of my life! Never forget...Mawmawtc loves you!!!!

Tessie, I am VERY sure that Destiny knows that you love her. Although, there is nothing better than loving words written down like that from a loved one! I'm also sure that when she is older and down in the dumps, she will get that letter out and read it to make her feel better! How old is little Destiny?

LOLOL Tessie! I understand the "thinking" she's 27.... I had 3 kids and they all thought that around that age.. Once they hit the "teenage" years, it just gets worse LOLOL... I sure hope she continues to be a wonderful young lady. I'm sure that as long as she has you and her parents, she will grow up to be one heck of a special lady that ANY man would love to have in his life!~!
