Yesterday it was to hot to cook inside so we cooked out on the open pit fire it was a real nice day to be outside just sitting around, here are a few pictures of us cooking outside, we like to make it a family thing when cooking outside so that everyone has a chance to learn that art of cooking.
Here is a picture of the setup outside by the fire.
The burger in the dutch oven just before it went on the fire.
Here i was cutting up the bacon to put in with the burger to be fried.
Heres the bacon and the burger on the fire starting to fry.
And you have to have lots of onions so is the onions being chopped for the chili.
Ok all the stuff in the pot starting to fry yum yum yum.
Another look at the ingredients left to go yet, i like to cook my chili slow over the fire as im never in a hurry because burnt chili sucks.
Ok now it was spice time, i was putting the chili powder in right here.
Here is a top picture of all the spices including the 4 table spoons of crushed garlic.
After that was mixed and fried for a while so that the spices had a chance to draw out it's oils and flavor, it was time for the tomato's to go in the pot.
Once the chili had a chance about 45 minutes it was time to add the sauces and pastes, here i am adding the paste to the chili.
Here is my grand daughter Mara adding a can of tomato sauce.
The 2 kids sitting at the table.
One last picture of the chili before the beans went in the pot.
Here is Mara and myself putting the beans in the chili pot yum yum yum.
and last but not least we put in a jar of apple jelly to make it sweet chili, the reason for it being the last ingredient is so that the sugars don't have a chance to burn in the pot. Here is Beth putting the jelly in the pot.
There ya have it a day cooking out at the North Star Home.
