School Bus Crash

A 7-year-old girl was seriously injured after a school bus crash in Baxter.

Just after 6pm last night, authorities were called to Crow Wing County Road 48 and State Highway 37 in south Baxter.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 64-year-old Carol Schwarzkopf was traveling east bound on 48 when she failed to stop at a red light.

The bus, carrying one teacher and 11 students, was northbound on Highway 371 and struck the rear of the car, spinning it into another vehicle.

A medical helicopter landed on the southbound lanes of 371 to transport 7-year-old Madeline Gibbons to the hospital.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley superintendent said three of the high school students on the bus suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The students, teacher, along with family members were returning to Walker from a cooking show in the Twin Cities.

Madeline Gibbons is now listed in fair condition at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

You hear about stuff like that more all the time.

last year we had a bus driver drak a boy all most a block .....he still had his arm in the door n the driver closed it n pinned him in it ....i heard it on the police scanner of ares .......my son had just been dropped of by the same bus driver 2 minutes before !!!!!

One rainy evening the end of January, we had a bus run a stoplight on the outskirts of town. It was filled with kids going to a basketball game. They hit an oncoming car in a Dodge Neon. The man driving the car escaped with a broken leg. Thank god there wasn't any more injuries than that. None of the kids on the bus were hurt.
