| When Out Fishing The Rivers For What Ever You May Be After, Why Is It That You Always Seem To Catch High Numbers Of Channel Cat Young Ones. Is This Because Of The Low Numbers Of Flathead Cats That You Don't Catch Any Flathead In The 6" To Lets Say 12" inches In Size. Now I May Be Wrong In Other Areas But Here In The Minnesota River You Just Don't Catch Any That Size. | |

| I don't know, but I've caught a lot of little channels also, barely big enough to get the hook in their mouth, but very seldom do I catch a little flattie. | |

| I've seen my share of 1-2 pound flatheads, but none of the real small ones. It's pretty funny when you catch a 20" flathead using a big, fat bullhead for bait! Their eyes tend to be bigger than their mouths | |

| Now that I think about it, I don't remember ever seeing a little flathead. 1/2 to 1 pound. Looks like if they like live bait, they would hit minnows when crappie fishing. | |

Both, more out of the Mississippi, though. But that could be because I have spent more hours on the Mississippi.

| Mike
I am not sure why anyone would want to target flathead that small but numbers of smaller flathead should surpass numbers of big flathead.
In small rivers the flathead seem more aggressive than they are in lakes and I have had small flathead take large baits.
My guess is that flathead in the size you are wondering about are juvenile fish that feed on insects and crawdads. They are found in different spots than larger flathead and feed on different food.
The only ones I remember catching are those that Kayla caught with cut bait fishing for channel cats.

| I think that a lot of people mistake small flats for bullheads. | |
