your right john just remember in your mind what happens when a dog tries to hang from there front legs, there body goes out in front of them and they fall because they can't hang on. by trying to swim though and getting your feet out behind you, you have a much better chance of getting out of the water. now there still is danger after words because your body temp has lowered, but you have a high chance of survival once you on top the ice not under it.
