| About three months ago the Amish fellow up the road gave me his chickens. 35 of them. Every morning when I let them out of the coop I get run over by a mad dash of birds who think they are starving to death. Unfortunately there is always a catch when something is free. In this case 8 of the 35 birds are roosters. They have gotten very mean here lately so 6 of them are going to meet "mister axe" this weekend. Crockpot chicken and dumplings next week. I'm sure the hens will appreciate not being molested several times a day. Gonna keep one of the "regular" roosters plus this one. He is a Silkie and the only rooster of the bunch who does not have a bad attitude. Actually he is pretty friendly. | |

| I agree with you, mean ones become table fare and the good ones you keep. When I was growing up on the farm we had a bunch of chickens and it was nice to have fresh chicken to eat and you own fresh eggs. | |
