| Anybody on here raise rabbits? My son's are talking about raising some for the meat....With the price of meat going up everyday...This might not be a bad idea...Corn prices are going up terrible...That will in turn make meat prices sore...I think we are in for some hard times...And rabbit is good eating... | |

| You can make money with the meat and the skins too. I buy mine from a guy that lives in the next town, wife loves rabbit, but if I raised them she wouldn't let me kill them. | |

| I raised them for show and for meat. They were Checkered Giants. Even had special containers for the meat and a local meat market sold them for me. Of course I was quite young then. I do not think I want to do that now however. Butchering takes time and I have no idea what pellets cost now days.
At that time I seem to remember that six weeks was the most cost effective age for butchering so that is what I did. Building proper cages takes time and a little money also. For lumber I hand sawed down trees and a little saw mill cut them into lumber for me. All for wood to make rabbit cages out of. And to do it correctly it took bookwork and records. And by the way a tatoo kit to tatoo numbers inside the ears to keep track of who is who for pedigree records.
I do not think I want to go through all that again. Just raising for some meat might be a little easier.

And biscuits. I haven't eaten a rabbit in many years, but wouldn't mind having one right now.
