While on the paper route this morning we come across a few snappers that we laying their eggs along the road, most of these eggs won't hatch because they will get run over by the road grader but their are a few that will make it. They were all about the same size which is about 20lbs each, would make some great soup but there is a season on them here and you can't take them till in July again ( May and June they lay there eggs and are protected.)

Cool pics mike. It is a shame they lay their eggs by the road though. I'm surprised they didn't lay them in the creek or somewhere by the water.

Seems like they lay them along the road quite a bit here also, but I don't know why.

Well even though if the road graders don't wreck the clutch of eggs, the coons will get them anyways like in the pictures here. These clutches/nests of eggs are of the turtles nests that i took 2 weeks ago of the turtles laying them, the first photo's of coarse and there was several more places that you could see were they have been laying them.

You know when i talk to a DNR about snapping turtles they tell me that they are disappearing and are fewer every year, After really paying attention to this kinda stuff i can see why. Im sure there are alot that make it but from what i have seen for destruction on the nests/clutches i now see why there are getting to be fewer.

Heck Mike, wait till mama leaves, dig them up and bury them at your place, start your own snapper farm.
