18th Annual Catfish Days Chess Tournament
The Catfish Days Chess Tournament was enjoyed by 54 players and by many more family and friends
that came to Franklin for a fun weekend in July. Chess is a sport enjoyed by young and old players. It is an interesting mix to watch as older players commiserate over being beaten by yet another young tiger and younger players mention that their opponent has been playing chess many more years than they are old. The prizes get split up by players ratings and amounts are based on the number of players in a section. These ratings range from 100 to 2400 with classes at each 200 point break. Generally players of one class will find it difficult to beat a player of a higher class but in order to win their section they will most likely have to do just that. So all the winners listed were very happy to have achieved these results. Besides the chess everyone enjoyed the potluck get together and “family reunion” atmosphere of the tournament. There were lots of comments about how much fun it is to come to a small town for the weekend celebration.
