A Baltimore man’s alleged attempts to cash lottery tickets stolen in a September armed robbery at a Hampstead gas station may have won him nothing but a trip to jail.

Mark Arthur Perry, 44, of the 1300 block of Ensor Street in Baltimore, is charged with armed robbery, robbery, theft of more than $500, first-degree assault and use of a handgun in a violent crime.

He was held without bail at a bail review hearing Friday, according to court records.

Perry and two other men allegedly robbed a Texaco gas station in the 200 block of Md. 30 Sept. 9, taking money, cigarettes and several rolls of scratch-off lottery tickets.

One of the men showed the clerk a gun and ordered him to open the cash register, according to court documents.

Officials for the Maryland State Lottery Commission flagged the stolen tickets in their system so they would be notified if the tickets were cashed.

The suspects reportedly tried to cash several of the stolen tickets at several locations throughout Baltimore the morning after the robbery.

According to court documents, Perry went to the lottery commission’s office to try and cash tickets stolen in the robbery, providing a Maryland driver’s license and Social Security card with his name and date of birth.

Video surveillance from two other Baltimore businesses showed Perry trying to cash stolen tickets, according to court documents. State police investigators were reportedly able to identify Perry using the photograph from the driver’s license he used while trying to cash tickets at the lottery commission.
