Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
Holy crap what a sad fish story
and i truly mean that because i have been there myself but it was my own fault. Buddy i feel the pain just reading that i cringed
but as we all know there is not one thing we can do about it now.
It still sounds like you had some good fishing before hand though
Them sounded like some good fish to, Buddy as always that was another great report and i love reading them while i look out the window and watch it rain
please keep them coming my friend.

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
I am very sorry to hear about that, Terry. I would have been disgusted also. Although the big one got away, hopefully you will catch him another day!
Keep up the good work. I don't blame you one bit for not letting Rick tie any more knots lolol

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
Well it seems as though I cant do no wrong lately as long as Im the one tying the knots LOL Got out at 5am this morning. Went back into the creeks and netted some bait which was easy I took 2 throws and had 4 dozen big fat herring up to 8 inches long plus I had a couple bluegills in the basket off the dock. 1st fish caught was on a live bluegill on a planer board I would have had a better picture but the auto feature wasnt working right. The rest of the fish were caught on herring in the creeks themselves. No one but me has been fishing in these creeks and it is just full of stripers when the sun starts getting high because the trees shade the creek from the sun till about 10am and the water is 2 to 3 degrees cooler in the skinny sections of the creeks. It is pretty wild battling a striper in a creek that is only 15 to 25 feet across. 4 stripers total and one nice largemouth whom I assume just got done spawning because she was all beat up and pretty thin.

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
No fishing today Im just plain worn out. Not much sleep from hittin the water and hectic days of work finally caught up to me. But this past April will definately go down as one of my best months of fishing on record.

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
Got out this morning ahead of the thunderstorms. I checked the radar and seen they were a couple hours away so I snuck in a quicky LOL Bait was easy to get once again and even got a smattering of gizzard shad mixed in with the herring including the picture of a giant one that was 15+ inches. I was gonna use him but figured I just dont have the time to pull a bait that big around behind the boat this morning. The fish are starting to move out to deeper water now and getting ready to school up tight again and unfortunately the fat lady is warming up on the topwater bite. I found some decent fish hanging over deeper water today so I switched a couple rods over from planer boards to use downlines and managed 4 hard pull downs and this one striper in the 14lb range I also bagged a small channel while I was unloading the boat at the dock.

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
The coolest part about that striper is on the depth finder I got to see him swim up on the bait and take it
Something I would never have seen on the old humminbird.

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
Man o' man I was firing on all cylinders this mornin'.I got out this morning netted bait and headed for deeper water. The shallow surface bite died off for stripers recently and Im not so sure that is a bad thing anymore. It seems instead of the stripers being scattered in the upper water column they have now went a little deeper and have started to school up. First spot was a bust with only one pull down. Second spot I rolled into closer to the house was the honey hole I was marking fish stacked up from 25ft all the way down to 35ft. I dropped my lines circled back over them and nailed my first fish and then turned around went back over them and had all 4 rods hooked up and screaming drag at once but I am only one man
I got one of them and one got off clean and the other 2 fish made it into the timber deep and broke me off. And this sort of thing was the norm for the next 2 hours 2 and 3 rods screaming drag at once and Im pumped up like a mad man trying to manage the situation
all total I had 9 stripers well over 20 bites lots of hookups and 4 breakoffs in a little less than 2 hours. One fish was so damn big he bent a solid driftmaster rod holder at the base
But I had my hands full trying to land another fish when he struck. One boat rolled up seen me reeling one in and did a once around and took off
If having 3 rods hooked up at once isnt proof that they are all over the place I dont know what he was looking for?? Maybe those jumping stripers kinda like an Asian carp
I couldnt take pictures of all fish as you can see in one of those pictures I was watching one rod take off while I was snapping a photo and releasing fish while I have another rod in my hand

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
Glad to hear you had such a great day on the water,
Terry. We've had so much rain here, that the bite just isn't quite there yet. Hopefully within the next week or so it will be.
Thanks for sharing the posts and pics! Nice fish!~!

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
Decided to give striiper fishing a break and went out yesterday morning with a buddy from work looking for bass. He picked me up at my dock at 5:30am and we drove the 30 minutes north on the Lanier and hit a pocket working sammy's ,chug bugs etc. and wouldnt you know it the first two fish I catch are stripers After that it was a mixed bag of spots, stripers and one largemouth. Great morning of topwater with a few double hookups with stripers and spots. One striper was a hoss' that straightened my hook about 5 minutes into the fight. We were getting 3 and 4 blowups on one cast and then just like that it just stopped cold. Started throwing slash baits, spinner baits, flukes and just about everything ever made to get one more bite in 3 hours Im guessing the barometric pressure changed quickly and shut everything down.

Re: JC's 2009 Lake Lanier fishing reports
dandy report as always Terry and congrats to you and your buddy from work, it just amazes me to how clean looking them fish are for what the color of the beach is. Here the sand up farther north with all the iron ore in it is the same color, but the fish are kinda a rusty tinge to them not the meat though. Any who thanks for the great report and i hope your fishing keeps on going good for you.
