Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Greg. Me and Jake went to a pond by his house and caught probably 15-18 bass together in under an hour. None of them were very big but still plenty of fun on light tackle. If this rain ever stops long enough for it to dry out some I hope to post some photos of some monster cats. The place I got my biggest last year has some HUGE fish in it. Not just cats but stripers and LM bass.

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Peg. I haven't been doing much fishing since my last report but when I have went the 5-6 inch bass were tearing up anything that hit the water. I guess they are just now getting big enough to eat more. I was casting a buzz bait the other night and had a pretty nice bass grab it (4 or 5 pounds). I fought it for a while with 6 pound test line. As the bass gets closer I notice the hook is not set very good. When the fish gets close to the bank I tried to grab its mouth as soon as I could but as soon as my hand got about a couple inches away the bass turned and the hooked pulled free from the fishes mouth and straight into the side of my thumb. Luckily it didn't get the barb down but it was awful close and blood poured out pretty steady. I held pressure on it and it eventually stopped bleeding. I never got another bite the rest of the afternoon.

Re: 09 fishing
I only caught 2 fish today. One was a little bass and one was a not so little channel. I was reeling my slack up and just as I went to pull the bobber up I noticed it bounce a couple of times. I didn't notice it quick enough to stop but I didn't need to. As soon as the line went tight the bobber quit coming in. It peeled alot of drag but never went more than 20-25 feet away in either direction from where I hooked it. It was about 27-28 inches long but wasn't too bad for 6 pound test line.

Re: 09 fishing
Sorry to hear you got a hook in your thumb. That hurts, I know... Been there done that. At least you are still catching fish. It has been too hot to fish lately. Won't be going for a while till it cools back down again. Great report!

Re: 09 fishing
Buddy hooks in the thumb is one of the worse things, i had one one time the went in my thumb all the way to the curve of the hook and had to cut it out myself because i couldn't afford a trip ti the doctor. Yep that finger will be tender for a while at least mine was, great reports to willy sounds like there are still some fish to be caught and your finding them keep up the great reports and catching the the try to keep the fingers out of it though. lolol

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Mike and Peg. I got lucky and this one didn't quite make it to the barb. It still hurt like heck but wasn't near as bad as I have heard about happening to other people.

Re: 09 fishing
No big fish at the tournament last night. I still walked out with 150 dollars. I should've had 285. I caught 8-9 fish with the biggest being 3-10. The dude who won the big fish pot had 3-11. One single ounce meant 135 bucks! It is too long to go into fish by fish as the fish were far apart and it was a 12 hour tournament.

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Greg and Mike. Right off the bat you could narrow it down to about 6-7 people that had a chance of winning. Me, Sambo, Peanut, Troy, and a couple of people that were just fishing for big fish were the only ones I really thought had a chance.

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Peg. I cant complain but I sure wish that my biggest was 2 ounces bigger or atleast 1 ounce bigger so I could've got half of the big fish.

Re: 09 fishing
I just got back in again. Me, my uncle, and dad went to a lake and caught 15 channels. I got 8, dad got 7, and poor uncle rusty got 0. Nothing of any size as the biggest was only a little over 5. All 15 came home with us this time and I plan on getting a few more leftovers from the tournament and having a fish fry. That should be good if Dino can come. He can get KFC's original recipe flour by the 25 pound bags and it taste AMAZING on fish.

Re: 09 fishing
Honestly, Willy, that is great that you got some nice eating size channels. I am sure that they will taste good once they are put into that hot grease!

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Mike and Peg. Jake came over and spent the night last night. Last night we went across the street and caught about half a dozen bluegill and filleted them. Took the fillets to Danny's to try and catch some cats. No sooner than we got there Jake had one hit that took all of the slack out and missed. I seen one swirl over in the corner and casted on it. That bobber didn't sit there maybe thirty seconds and went down I set the hook and could tell it was a nice fish so I handed the rod the Jake. It was about 6 or 7ish.

That was all for the night except for one more small channel that Jake caught and I had a 8-10 pound turtle hold on to my bluegill head all the way to the bank. Now for the good part! We got up this morning and had to go to my grandma's for a little bit. Came home and got some more bluegill and filleted about 12-15 of them. Some of the smaller ones I kept one fillet on the head. When we got to Danny's I casted my 7000 up by the dam with one of the heads that had the fillet on it. With my other pole I tried to find some channels. I was going to reel up my slack only to find there was no yellow cork up by the dam. So I flipped the lever on my 7000 and swung. The tip of the rod stopped moving about time the line went tight. I couldn't make up my mind of this was a big channel cat or if it was "him". He was right at our feet and we still couldn't see him because we were in deeper water but I seen him swirl and seen the rounded tail and knew it was "him".

I think this flathead thinks he is a bluecat. Both times I have caught him he came out of deep water, no structure and on cutbait. There is no telling how long I have spent over there watching big bluegill pull my bobber around the pond and he finally decides to bite cutbait in deep water.

Thanks Greg! That flathead sliced my thumb open good. It bled forever. We named that flathead "him" because he is a male and it is the only flathead in the pond, not because it is a huge fish (he is far from it).
