Re: 09 fishing
Thanks! Last night was a pretty good night but we didn't hook up with any flatheads. They were biting but I think they were too small to get the bait in their mouth good. I was up all night so I need to rest but when I wake up and get done cleaning fish I will do a report.

Re: 09 fishing
I can't sleep so I will go ahead and post my report before I head out to use up the rest of my goldfish. We took us some shrimp, night crawler, and dough ball with us for bait. As soon as we got there Dad started getting bites on the dough ball. I started out using shrimp because I wanted to fish on the other side of the lake and you can't cast dough ball very far. It wasn't but a few minutes when I looked up and there was no bobber on the other bank. It was a small channel. Dad caught a couple of them and a couple turtles before I caught anything. I decided to try the shrimp backed with night crawler down the bank and I didn't even get the rod in the holder when I felt the rod jerk so I set the hook. It was about 4 or 5 pounds. I didn't have another bite until a little after dark when I casted a live bluegill up in the shallow water. I had a fish grab it three times and all three times it would jerk the bobber to one side a couple feet and then jerk it right back the other way before walking off with it. I assume it was shaking it's head. On the last bite the fish had pulled out all of the slack and I could feel the fish so I swung but missed. I think it was a smaller flathead that couldn't get the bluegill in it's mouth good. Up in the middle of the night I had another bite on shrimp that was a small channel. Dad had three bites on live goldfish and missed all three. I think they were small flatheads that couldn't get the bait in it's mouth good. All together we caught 6 channels, 3 turtles, and had 4 bites on big live baits. It was fun but it wore me out spending all day at school and then staying up all night and now I can't sleep.

Re: 09 fishing
We went over to the Rod and gun club to spend the night last night. I picked me up a new americat rod rod (American flag design) to put my 6600 on. My second cast with my new rod and I caught a small channel. My grandpa showed up while I was putting it in the basket so I stopped and rigged his poles up and casted them out for him. Back to my poles. I didn't have another bite until about 10 when we were setting up the grill and I never came back. About 10 minutes later I checked my bait and the fish was just sitting there with it. Another small channel cat. I never got another bite so about 2 am I stretched out on the bank and went to sleep. I woke up about daylight and started bass fishing. First bite on the buzz bait I missed because I wasn't paying attention and set the hook way to hard. Very next cast I had a small one grab it right at the bank that literally came flying out of the water on the hook set. A few cast after that I caught another one about 12 inches long. Besides those all I had was a few that would grab it and I would have them for a little bit before they came unhooked. I did have a nice one blow up on the buzz bait but never bit it. I was fishing up in the shallow end and had one run me up by the log sticking out and I guess it put a bad spot in my line. It was a nice bass (my guess 3.5-4 tops) but it wasn't enough to break 12 pound test. I wasn't able to get some pics because mom took the camera to 6 flags. I promise some time in the next century I will get you some pics.

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Peg and Mike. I just got back from Danny's. I took some live goldfish with me and casted one out on my new rod and casted a head out on the other. It is in the 90s right now so I didn't stay long. After about 45 minutes of watching that goldfish swim around the pond it finally went under and I set the hook expecting that flathead I put in there. After a few minutes I finally got him on the bank but he was hooked pretty deep in the corner of the mouth so I came home to get some pliers and a camera. I got back and had to re-fight the fish. It probably took 5-6 minutes to get him in the second time. Snapped a few pics and put him back. For his size he fought like crazy. It was one run after another put he tired quick. It doesn't look like the same fish in these two pics does it? I can't believe how much I dwarf these fish.

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks Scott and Greg. Are there any rivers close to you Greg? They might not have a good population of cats but I'm sure they will have gar and bowfin. Both are pretty easy to catch and fight good. Some say they are good to eat and some say they are not. I all ways threw all of mine back anyway.

Re: 09 fishing
I will ALWAYS throw a gar or bowfin (dogfish) back... The dogfish stink as it is, I'm surely not cleaning and eating something that stinks that bad lolol. I can't wait to get into a good catfishing day or night.... Hopefully here within the next week or so I will be able to get some fish for the freezer. Great report, Willy! You're starting to make me jealous now LOLOL!~! Keep up the great reports, fishing and pics!~!

Re: 09 fishing
Thanks! Mr. Mann finally came home yesterday about 5:30 so I went over there to go fishng. Right off the bat we started catching little bass. First 3 cast we caught 3 and a couple cast later I caught another all under a pound. We finally started catching some bluegill and that is when we started catching big bass. We caught 7 between 2 /12 pounds up to 5 pounds. We missed probably 5 or 6 though. I kept pulling hooks with the big stiff rod. Jacob also caught several more small bass. My biggest was about 4 pounds off of a dead bluegill. I seen one swirl about half between me and my float so I reeled it up on the swirl and she hammered it. I set the hook and she jump all the way out of the water. One of the 4 3 to 3 1/2 pounders tried to jump all the way out but only got its head out of the water. After I caught 6 big bass I started letting Jake catch them. He missed a couple befor ehe hooked up but when he hooked up he stuck a pig! I seen the float go under and he reeled up the little bit of slack left in it and swung. This is only the fourth fish to be caught on my new americat rod. After a short fight and a couple jumps we had the huge fish at the dock. Of course he had to catch the biggest fish of the day that was pushing 5 pounds. Hopefully someone will come hope so we try for a repeat performance.

Re: 09 fishing
Nobody ever came home while we were at Jake's house so we came to my house and went to the rod and gun club. I caught 9 and Jake caught 6. The biggest one was about 14 inches but most were under 10. This morning we went over to the old rock quarry and Jake picked up one that was about 2 pounds no sooner than we got there. That was it for about an hour when I caught one that was about 6 inches long. Since were weren't getting any bites we came home and went to Danny's. I hooked a small bass on my third cast and a couple cast later I hooked a pig. I'm not sure whether it was one of the huge bass or a channel because on my little spinning reel it wouldn't of made much difference and I never seen it before she came unhooked. I caught 2 more small bass and a channel cat before I left and Jake caught 2 crappie and 2 rockbass.
