Town On Ice

Post by North Star on Sun Dec 30, 2007 10:28 am

This Is A Few Pictures Of How Big The Towns Get Out On The Lake Near Me. This Lake Is 8 Miles Long And About A 1/2 To 3/4 Of A Mile Wide, But There Gets To Be Some Monster Ice House Towns Out There.

my guess in these 2 different areas there is at least 700 fish houses and there still dragging them out on the ice. im trying to find someone that fly's that can take some pictures for me from the air but i make no promise on that one. cheers cheers cheers

You know,,you would think that that many people, shacks and cars would make that ice crack.

john that ice is a lot stronger than a person thinks, years ago they use to drive semi's across the lakes to save time gas and money on making delivery's to the markets. 3 feet of ice will hold a semi 4 feet would hold one with a very heavy load. there are still precautions you have to take but that is just the way of ice fishing. cheers cheers cheers

How thick is the ice now? Does it get thicker all year or does it reach a point where it stops?

as long as it stays below freezing it gets thicker, on a real good year i have seen ice 3 1/2 feet think but on most years it is 2 1/2 feet thick, right now it is between 18 and 22 inches.

1. Very scary Marlboro.

2. When the ice may not support a vehicle some still venture out. I remember some "safety rules" from Michigan. They said to drive with all the doors open. Is that a good idea?

3. And Mike; I still have that 8 X 10 great photograph of you with a single spec on my wall. My neighbor asked me two nights ago; Who is that?. So I said that is one of my friends.

Those are some good pics Mike. They get them towns going and you don't want to leave for days.

Bernie, they are having Tip Up Town as we speak. I'm missing it this year. But they have a great event out there every year.
