One Thing That Alot Of People Think When It Comes To Fishing The River Is That They Need A Boat To Catch Fish Of Any Size, Thats Not True At All Fact I Have Caught Flatheads In The 40 LB Bracket So I Hope This Info Helps Someone.

When I Fish Flatheads On The Minnesota, I Am Almost Always Using Bullheads Because They Stay Alive Alot Longer And Are Usually Easy To Find. I Also Use Chubs Or Suckers For Flatheads But They Have To Be Alive If There Not I Use Them For Channel Cats. Most Guys Use A Basic Slip-sinker Rig With A Short Snell 6"-1.5' And A Weight Anywhere From 3-5 Ounces Depending On The Current You Are Fishing.

Some Types Of Spots That Have Been Productive For Me Have Been The Upstream Sides Of Snags, Inside Bends And Sand Bars Near Deep Holes, Flats On The Up-Current Side Of Holes, Cut Banks, Or Creek Inlets, But There Are Many Others, I Like To Be Somewhat Near Deep Water Or Wood And Preferably Both.

Whenever Possible I Will Try To Place My Baits In The Current Created By These Types Of Structures To Give Us The Best Chance, Sure Hope This Will Help Someone Down The Line In Aiding Them To Catch Some Fish.

I primarily fish the Minnesota river. In the last 3 years I have landed walleyes from less than 5 feet of water ramging from 4 to 9 lbs, and one northern at 9 lbs.
The thing I like best about river fishing is you just never know what you will catch. it's easy and very simple to do, and kids love it!
