Got home and kicked on the dock lights at 11:30pm and sat down and waited quietly like a church mouse for about an hour seen a couple rouge herring pass threw the lights but no mass schools like previous nights. Heard a big pop right at my feet and saw the tail end of a small striper jet back into the darkness this was my queue to get ...

I decided to go fishing yesterday beings it was my day off. I headed to Lake La SuAn around 10:30 yesterday morning. I went to a little pond called Ed's Pond, that isn't too far from the main lake. When I got there, it was hazy, overcast and there was nothing biting or even hitting the top of the water. Things were weird. When it is overcast, the fish are usually hitting the top of the water to beat the dog there. I sat up a pole with bobber with a black ant and a wax worm. My other pole I sat ...

The unseasonably cold weather has kept surface water temperatures stalled out in the mid 50s for more than a week in most Bemidji area lakes.

The cold water has slowed down feeding activities of fish species that have already spawned, like walleyes, northern pike and perch.

Species of fish that haven’t spawned yet, like crappies, sunfish and bass, also have been delayed while they wait for water temperatures to start rising again.

The peak walleye fishing of the spring usually ...

Anglers were catching a few fish in the 38-degree water. But Gary Siverson of Duluth thought they should be catching a lot more steelhead on their way upstream to spawn.

“This is absolutely brutal,” Siverson said. “If you could draw up a perfect spring, this would be it, and nobody’s catching any fish.”

The problem, Siverson ...

Who says a slow economy is a bad thing? For local bait shops preparing for Wisconsin’s inland fishing opener this Saturday, it has been a very good thing.

“A lot of people aren’t working, so a lot of people are fishing,” said Steve Dinda, who owns the Bait Box in Superior. “Sales aren’t slow.”

Most years, Dinda sees a lull in customers and has to shut down the minnow tanks in his shop. This year, the tanks have remained in operation constantly, and the customers keep coming.

North Dakota's paddlefish snagging season is under way.

The season runs through the end of the month, with a one-fish limit.

Wildlife officials can close the season early to protect the fish population if it appears too many paddlefish will be caught. That's happened seven times in the last eight years.

Snagging is legal in all areas of the Yellowstone River in North Dakota, and in part of the area of the Missouri River between the U.S. Highway 85 bridge and the Montana border.

Minnesota offers lifetime sporting licenses for most types of hunting and fishing. The price of the lifetime license is based on the age group of the individual angler.

One of the better deals in the lifetime fishing license program is for a 15-year-old angler to buy a lifetime license for $300, before the price increases to $383 at age 16. (Unfortunately there ...

this afternoon, I decided to try to go fishing at my dad's so I was using a mepps minnow lure so in a few casting, I caught a 25" pike... I was continue to casting til 5pm, I was about to go to home but the last casting, musky just grab it and battled for about 10 min... Finally musky got close to the shore, it was about 40" long. but bad news, the 8 pound line was broke... I was kind frustated about it. I should bring a net next time..
