Word On The River Is That Temps Are Hitting Prime Range, Mid To Low 40's Depending Where On The River Your Fishing My Report Came From The Granitefalls Area.

Look For Bait Fish In The Shallows And Cut Off Banks From Outlets, Jig And Minnow Seem To Be The Ticket, Twisters Also Seem To Be Getting Some Real Nice Keepers As Well You May Even Get A Pike In These Areas It Is Not Uncommon..

Catching crappies in Lake Oliver for the last 3 weeks. All pretty good size along with some small walleyes.

I have been up at Lac Qui Parle at a place we all call Brendemoen Bridge. I was up there last week and caught a couple of 16 inch walleyes and one slab crappie. So it is starting to pick up. A jig and a minnow, hard to beat that.

The river below the dam at Lac Qui Parle is really low, not much going on there except sheephead right now.

Do not know how Milan Bridge is doing, but ...

The Waters Are Really Low Right Now Making For Some Tough Fishing On The Rivers Not Just The Minnesota, Here Are A Few Ideas To Try Out If You Are Planning To Get Out Soon On The Water.

1. Log Jambs Seem To Be The Ticket For The Channels Lately, Depth Hasn't Seemed To Be A Big Factor.

I have fished the Ohio River since I can remember , I still know exactly what my first open bail reel looked like and remember being the luckiest of whatever group to catch the most fish .

When I was young I wouldn't go fishing The Ohio River unless I had my lucky pole and a few dozen nightcrawlers , spent a lot of days on the Ohio River , there used to be a local bait shop that would hold tournaments on the biggest fish ...

Better get your last trips in before the ice on the red and its tribs become unstable and to dangerous to be on! I figure we got about 2 maybe 3 weeks left to have safe ice, it all depends on how warm it starts to get.

This Sturgeon was caught on the Willamette River just below Oregon City two weeks ago. It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11'1". It was 56" around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it in.

Any Sturgeon OVER about five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed from the water.

They are brood / breeding stock and probably older than most of us.

Fishing as been good for the last week on walleyes and pike, fished yesterday (2-25-2008) and got just a couple goldeye. Had front run through in the midnight and early morning and I feel it messed with the fish! We fished one of very consistant spots and nothing, we moved and found nice shelf, calm water, and had fallen trees on both sides of us but nothing.

Weather is to change this week and by the weekend it should be picking up. The fishing is only going to get better with spring coming ...

Columbia And Snake Rivers

Well Mike I guess I'll start this and maybe Don (Shortshank) can add to it.

The two largest rivers in Oregon that are close to where I'm from are the Willamette River that runs through downtown Portland, and of course the other is the Columbia River that starts out in Canada and runs down through the state of Washington, then turns West and divides the states of Washington and Oregon before it dumps into the Pacific Ocean. Probably the biggest tributaries to the Columbia are the Willamette ...

Those fish pictures are stored away somewhere else and right now I don't have a clue as to where. So here are some, mostly scenic pictures of a couple of our trips down the river.

This is a picture of "Basalt Rapids."

Was out on the mighty Red this yesterday with a buddy and took our limit on eyes plus a few extra hook ups to boot. The eyes were averaging 18-20" with a fewer small ones mixed in. We each got 3 nice fish for the fry pan to make the most wonderful meal out on the ice this coming weekend... What a day we had, it was the most action we have had so far on hard water... We also lost 6 due to spitting the jig in the middle of the hole and put back 2 for being to small and the rest cause we already ...

When Fish The Minnesota River As This Would Work For Most Rivers, There Are 2 Places That I Like To Fish Above All Others. The First One Is Fish Log Piles On Bends In The River Were The Water Has Dug Deep Holes. I Like To Fish In Front Of These Log Piles As Close To Them As Possible With Out Getting Your Line All Snagged Up In It. Then When The Evening Starts To Come In I Like To Fish The Flats, The Flats Meaning Were There Is Deep Water Fish The Top Edges All Around That Deep Water And Fish ...

Any updates on ECDs, endocrine disrupting compounds. All is quiet while the Ohio river slowly dies. I know Smallmouth are especially affected by these compounds that cause reproductive abnormalities. But I hear no reports. Last summer was the worst I have ever seen the river for fish abundance, yet nothing is said or done by any of the agencies.

I know the stocking continues. But in my opinion this will only hurt the fishery thru loss of genetic diversity. I feel this is a stop gap measure ...
