We wanted to catch a big load of Crappies since we are all out right now. Two weeks ago a friend of mine from the coast was visiting and we caught a boat load of them for him to take home. Friday it turned cold, rained all day and the wind blew. So the Crappie fishing was the Crapps I did manage to catch this 9 pound Channel Catfish though. And of course with my luck, Saturday was a really warm sunny bluebird day. We should have went Saturday. Just trying to get an idea of folks dream boats, towing vehicle, tackle and equipment here. For me I'd like to have a pontoon and a jon boat. I'd like the pontoon for the bigger water but on some of those lakes I'd need a jon to get in the coves. I'd like a solar panel pack on the pontoon to keep batteries charged for an electric motor. Do you have 1 favorite bait that always produces? Or are you like a bass fisherman and use a wide variety of baits? I've used cut bluegill, sucker and creek chub, and I don't think I ever caught anything on the bluegill. Of the cutbaits it seems like chub is the best. I've used nightcrawlers and they seem to be pretty consistent. But I also get carp, bluegill and other fish. It seems like I don't have 1 bait in particular that always produces. The water is way low over at Danny's and the water is still cold (you can see the snow in the one pic). The bluegill were swirling everywhere but it didn't seem like the big channels were chasing them. Everything is out of the water right now so the only difference in one spot and another is the depth. I tried the shallow side first. I caught one small channel and snagged a bluegill about 2 inches long. ... They head for the water that warms the quickest in the system with this often being a north bay or a shallow one anyways that has a creek/stream or that dumps in giving the a place to feed and prepare for the spawn. I caught two monsters. First fish bit about 15 minutes after I got there. That 9 foot medium action rod just doubled over and when I set the hook the drag just slipped. The fish just started peeling the 20 pound test line off of my 6500c3. After about a 10 second fight I finally got him in. Not much of a fish but it was the first cat of the year. I caught a monster channel catfish of about 8 inches and then Lexi came down and showed me how to do it right We ended up catching 3 all together in about an hour and missed a couple more. Lake is still pretty muddy but I did see a couple stripers rollin on bait so I may give it a shot tomorrow.
